Head of English

Stephen grew up in Bournemouth, U.K before heading to Australia to study at Monash University in Melbourne. There Stephen completed degrees in English Literature, History, Education and Film Studies. Stephen’s first role as a teacher was at Western Port Secondary College where he not only taught English Literature but was Academic and Pastoral Leader For Grade 12. From there Stephen joined Frankston High School, where he performed role of Head of English for 3 years and then Head of Senior School for another 5 years. Also, during this time Stephen was a member of the board of examiners for English and English Literature in the state of Victoria for many years. For the last six years Stephen has worked in a variety of schools in China, learning to adapt his teaching methodology to the needs of students with a range of language backgrounds and abilities. As a Senior School leader and as a Head of English in China, Stephen has managed to make a major impact on many student’s lives. This positive impact comes his philosophy of balancing academic rigor and high expectations while developing a fun and caring learning environment.

Our Program

Based on the implementation of the CNC curriculum and IB PYP/MYP teaching methodology, strategies and assessments are being creatively blended. BES is committed to cultivating and educating future designers, change-makers and innovators.
